Shaw, one of the McNair murderers. The article alleges that Rev. Mr. Hooten, pastor of the Baptist church, was an active prosecutor in the case, that he was a witness against the prisoner, addressed the jury at the church &c. All this does gross injustice to Mr. Hooten and is a misrepresentation altogether. He was not an active prosecutor in the case, and did not conduct the prayer-meeting alluded to, had nothing to do with the jury going to church and did not address them as the article alleges, nor said a word in reference to the court or anything connected with it. There was no semblance excitement at the church and not a word of shouting was even thought about. We make this statement to correct the impression that has grown out of these publications and trust our people will understand the true status of the case and not be lead away by papers that care nothing for facts.
