Claud Hammond and Will Greer, colored, two other prisoners, refused to go. Hammond came out and reported the news to the Marshall and Sheriff, and said that while he and Greer were asleep the locks were picked and the other two made their escape/ Mr. Beauchamp began to investigate the case and soon found that Hammond had broken the locks and turned Price and Duke out. Hammond was arrested on said charges and carried before Judge Carmichael on Saturday for trial.
