A Fatal Blast

A correspondent from Towaliga sends the following account of a terrible 
accident that happened near that place on last Tuesday:

Steve Sims and another colored man, while blasting in a well near Kinard’s 
mill, on the farm of John “Ridgeway, on last Tuesday, were too slow for the 
dynamite, and were seriously hurt by an explosion.  Welch Wright, Col., son of 
Albert Wright, was looking down in the well and the tamping-rod took off his 
head.  Steve’s injury necessitated amputation of his right arm and the other 
man lost an eye.   K.S.
