Frightful Runaway

A Smith Mill correspondent of the Macon Telegraph says:

Dr. Alfred Whte of this county met with a singular accident on the night of 
Nov. 12th, while coming from Flovilla.  The doctor had lately purchased a fine 
horse that he prized very highly, thinking his qualities all right.   When near 
the ferry of T. J. Goodman, he stopped and slipped the bridle from the horse’s 
head for him to drink.  The horse took fright and ran over the doctor, throwing 
his wife from the buggy, breaking one arm and three ribs and otherwise bruising 
her up.  She had not spoken when last heard from.  The horse, in his fright, 
ran headlong into the river, carrying the buggy and a new set of harness, none 
of which have been recovered
