Argus – Week of June 1, 1891 The big “Sacred Harp” singing at Beersheba was a red letter day for a thousand people who assembled at the old church to hear and engage in a day of old time singing. Mr. H. C. Thaxton was made master of ceremonies and the music was conducted by Messrs. Barron Glass, Pound, Bickers, and Thaxton. “Twas pleasant indeed to sing again those good old songs we sang so long ago”. It was like returning to the old homestead and greeting old friends after a long journey. Dinner was served on the grounds and the supply was more than equal to the demands and the quality was of the best. It was indeed a feast of good things to both soul and body, and as the old sweet songs were rehearsed “many fond recollections were brought into view.” We were placed under many obligations to Mr. E. E. Pound for a pleasant ride to and from the church. May he yet live to grow corpulent attending all day singing.
