Serious Difficulty

A serious difficulty occurred just over the Butts county line in Monroe on 
Thursday between two brothers named Thomas and Mr. J. C. Gossett in which Mr. 
Gossett’s daughter, a young lady about seventeen years old was killed.

The fact are about these:  The Thomas boys’ stock had been troubling Mr. 
Gossett and these young men went to his house with the avowed intention of 
having a difficulty.  Meeting him near his front gate jumped on him and was 
beating him while his daughter, who had been out riding, comes up.  She pulled 
one of the Thomases(sp) off her father when he turned and shot her through the 
breast killing her almost instantly.
