Mr. Henry Burford, a highly respected old gentleman 73 years of age was awakened on Tuesday night and discovered fire in an adjoining room. Hurried to put the fire out, which had burned through the floor near the hearth and after throwing one bucket of water on the flames turned to go after another bucket and a piece of the flooring on which he stood, being badly burned, gave way and precipitated him to the ground, breaking one of his legs. In this dire extremity he crawled out of the fire and to the door where he called loudly for help. Being exhausted and not obtaining help he commenced to pray to the Lord for deliverance. The prayer was soon answered. Help came and the fire which had been burning out of the floor and the window curtains had almost died out. Mr. Burford’s married son who lived with him was away and at the time of the fire there was no one present but himself. It is a remarkable answer to prayer, the going out of the fire and the arrival of assistance to a Christian old man. It suggests that passage of scripture wherein our Lord in His word says: “Call upon Me in the hour of trouble; I will deliver thee and thou shalt glorify me.” Jackson Argus –Butts County Week of December 2, 1898 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/butts/newspapers/prayeran2041gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.9 Kb
