The chairman of the building committee is Mr. J. B. Carmichael, one of the most practical and progressing men in the state, and who does well all that he undertakes. Co-operating with him are other men of more than ordinary force, and the movement which they have set on foot to erect the handsome new structure has been fully matured and is in full swing. Without the slightest ostentation or noise a subscription list was started for the purpose of securing the necessary funds and within two days the subscriptions footed up to $2,200. When completed the Presbyterians will have a $3,500 house of worship – one that will reflect great credit on the earnestness of the membership, and one that will be an ornament to the city. The location of the old church is a very desirable one. It contains a grove of magnificent original oaks, affords sufficient natural drainage and while being a quiet and lovely retreat yet it is easily and convenient reached from all parts of the city. The Argus congratulates the Presbyterians on the happy prospect for their new building, and we also congratulate the community at large on the prospect of this certain acquisition to our growth.
