He belonged to Samuel F. Smith in ante-bellum days and was 79 years of age at his death. He has been blind for several years. The smith family has looked after his comfort in his last days, and when he died they gave him a decent burial. One remarkable feature about this old darkey’s history is that he never voted anything but a democratic ticket. He was the supporter of Seymour and blare and all the way down to the independent movement in butts County. He was the supporter of C. S. Maddox when Dr. May defeated him for the legislature, but when Arch attempted to vote the Populist ticket he was challenged as a tax defaulter and was not allowed to vote. And at the same time he had property sufficient to have covered the taxes had the officials done their duty. So he lived out his three score years and then and never voted anything but a Democratic ticket.
