The Georgia Enterprise November 14, 1889
     Mr. Samuel Mays, of Butts county, was convicted of defrauding the 
government out of tax on some peach brandy not long since. The brandy was 
confiscated, he was sentenced to one year and a day in the Ohio government 
penitentiary and to pay a fine of $200. A petition was presented to Judge Emory 
Speer asking that Mr. Mays be imprisoned nearer home, which was refused and he 
was taken to Ohio one day last week.
