These parties came down on the 10 o’clock night train and had in their custody a white baby some few weeks old. They carried it out to the home of John Cash and there left it in charge of John’s wife. The white man paid the Cash woman $4.00 to have her cotton hoed while she attended to the child. The Negroes say they don’t know the parties who brought the child to them. That they never saw them before and don’t know their names. Henry Bledsoe does not talk very freely about the matter. He says he don’t now what became of the parties who had charged of the baby, but says he saw the Negro woman take the train going north next morning. He tells a very disconnected story and there is every reason to believe that the little wait has behind it a dark mystery.
