Jackson Argus – Week of January 25, 1895
Mr. Joel Newsome, who for some time was known to our people, having resided 
here for several years, died at his son’s home in Hawkinsville, the first of 
the week.  Mr. Newsome was a good man, and a faithful member of the Jackson 
Baptist church.  His funeral was preached in that church by the pastor, Dr. 
Gardner, Tuesday last, and his remains were afterward deposited in the cemetery 
at this place.  He was 79 years old, and leaves his aged companion and several 
children, grandchildren and many friends to mourn his loss.
