It contains birth, marriage, and death information on five generations. A copy of all of the record pages is in the Georgia Archives. The bible was first owned by Allen and Peltiah(O'Neal)Gray of Butts Co. GA. A descendant, Mrs. Gladys Floyd of McDonough, Henry Co. had it when these photos were made. Allen Gray was the son of James Sr. and Elizabeth(Johnson)Gray, who migrated to Georgia from the Abbeville District of SC. James Sr. purchased lot #133/8D.- then in Henry Co. (in 1822-?). When Butts Co. was formed, the new countyline almost divided the lot in half, diagonally. James Gray Sr. died in June 1830. Son, Allen Gray and Peletiah O'Neal married in November 1832. In February 1833, Allen Gray purchased 135 acres, the Butts Co. portion, from his father's estate. The Gray Cemetery is on this section; provided for in Allen Gray's will. Peletiah (spelled several ways)was the daughter Zachariah O'Neal(O'Nail in early records). He, too, had purchased Henry Co. land(#249/1D.)in February 1822. This lot was also taken into Butts Co.(O'Neal Cemetery located there). In the family bible, "Pelly Gray" recorded the births of her siblings, and perhaps, the death of her mother, Sarah.
