Stephen Benjamin Moss was born May 12, 1848 in Newton Co. GA. He was the oldest 
child of Francis and Martha F.(Mann)Moss. This retouched close-up was taken 
from a composite portrait with his wife, Sarah Ann(Gray)Moss. This image was 
made from the better perserved of two known portraits by the Chicago Portrait 
Co.(large, 13" x 19" ovals-date unknown). This one was handed down through the 
family of his daughter, Elvia Odesia, who married James E. English. These 
portraits were generally made from existing-or recent-photo images. "Ben" Moss 
married Sarah Ann Gray January 4, 1872 in Butts Co. Her parents were Allen and 
Peletiah(O'Neal)Gray. Ben served in the 3rd GA Infantry during the Civil War. 
The couple is buried in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery in Henry Co.
