Ras was the son of Oscar B. and Laney A.(Maddox)Knowles. Daisy was the daughter of William A. and Ella F.(Fincher)Wilson. They started housekeeping near the Wilson place on Fincherville Rd. Sons, Alton and "Bud" were born there. When Daisy's father moved to Flovilla, the couple soon moved too, renting the "Shirey" place back of that house. Three children were born there; Bernard, Sarah, and Olin A. Jr. Donald and Frances were born in a smaller tenant house along the main road. About 1917, the family returned to Fincherville, to the O. B. Knowles place(he then lived in Jackson). Gladys was born there. The remaining children were born across the road at the "yellow house"(junction of Ingram Rd.)which Ras built(and painted)having honed carpentry skills at Flovilla, while working security & maintenance at the campground in Indian Springs with Luther Hoard. At Fincherville, the family prospered while farming nearly 400 acres of Knowles & Wilson land; employing day "hands" and many tenant farmers. At one point they worked as many as twenty- one mules! Later, the boll weevil, falling cotton prices, and bad banker advise (concerning stored cotton)led to financial trouble. About 1930, the family moved to Forest Park in Clayton Co., where Ras could use his non-farming skills. In their golden years, Daisy and Ras returned to Butts Co.-to Jackson, in the mid 1950s. They are buried at Sardis Baptist Church in Henry Co. This undated photo assembles the complete family! Three children; Alton, Bud, and Sarah were very likely married. Older children could not identify the photo location, making Clayton Co. more likely.
