Mann was born in Newton Co. c.1827. She was the daughter of William H. Mann and perhaps, "Fanny" Herndon, who may have married in Elbert Co. in January 1820. In Newton Co. in April 1846, Martha married Francis Moss. He was nearly thirty years older. The couple spent most of their married life on 101 acres(#126/8D.)near Island Shoals. There were at least eight children: Stephen Benjamin, Mary A. E., Sarah J., Minerva L.(?), Oglesby Prophet, Augustus B., William F., and Thomas W. This badly damaged portrait-15" x 19" oval image-was found in a log corn crib(said to have been built by Indians)at the homeplace of James E. and Elvia Odessa English on Keys Ferry Rd. in Henry Co. Elvia English was the daughter of Stephen Benjamin Moss, son of Martha F. Moss. Elvia's daughter, Lucy(English)Sutherland identified the image.
