M. Mallet retires from the chairmanship of the board of trustees of Jackson Institute with the consciousness of having noble done his duty. On this point the words uttered by Col. Wright the mass meeting a few nights ago are particular appropriate. In part Col. Wright said: Mr. Chairman, permit me to say that in the past I have been one of those who have criticized your acts in common with the acts of other members of the board of trustees, but on mature reflection and after viewing your conduct in the light of subsequent events, it is an hones conviction of my mind that those who have been most criticized have borne the heaviest burdens, have deserved the most sympathy, and are entitled to the most credit. (Prolonged cheering) In behalf of the people we extend to Mr. Mallet a vote of thanks for his distinguished services in Jackson and her school. May he ever prosper.
