Knowles, late of Conyers, GA, a grandson of W. A.("Tib") and Ella Wilson, reminiscing at the site of his grandparents' old homeplace at Flovilla in Butts Co. Mr. Knowles was born at Flovilla, November 30, 1907 and spent his first ten years there. His parents, Olin A. and Daisy(Wilson)Knowles had moved near her parents from Fincherville- c.1906; first renting the "Shirey Place" back of Tib & Ella, then moving into a smaller Wilson tenant house along the main road. Mr. Knowles was very close to this set of grandparents. For additional information on the family; see the portrait of Tib & Ella Wilson, other Wilson photos, tombstones, and the biography, "The Family of Joseph Wilson"-on this site. Mr. Knowles vividly identified other features of the homesite, and well as several incidences that occured there: The remains of the blacksmith shop were on the "Jackson" side of the house, as well as the depression left by the former large fruit cellar(a roofed central pit, with tiered soil shelves). "Granny Wilson" was quite industrious, making jams & jellys, and selling butter & eggs to merchants in Jackson. Twice a week, Postman Dick Cummings obligingly carried her wares to town. The former mutibay carriage/ garage shed was nearer the road, on the "Springs" side of the house, forward of the corn crib. Mr. Knowles recalled that Wm. Artis Jr. who was in the National Guard, once riddled an old Maxwell car inside one bay, forgetting it was there, while target shooting against the doors! The former large barn was seventy-five or eighty yards back of the crib. The expasive garden was across the main(dirt) road. Mr. Knowles remembered that Ella had to quickly strip the clothing from he and sister, Sarah, when they got into an ant bed there as toddlers! He also remembered the procession of buggys and wagons along the main road during campmeetings at the "Springs". Once, a horse or mule bolted coming up the road. His mother, Daisy, quickly herded several children out of the yard and under the front porch. The wayward buggy snagged on an axle driven into the ground as a hitching post, the animal breaking traces and chains, stumbling a good number of yards, its head coming to rest just under the porch! Fortunately, none were seriously injured! Look for related photos.
