John R. L. Smith, formerly of this county but now one of Macon’s ablest youngest lawyers, was married on Thursday of last week to Miss Katherine Furman. In this very important step Mr. Smith has the best wishes of hundreds of his Butts friends and admirers. Concerning the event the Macon Telegraph of last Friday says: At St. Paul’s church yesterday morning at 9”30 o’clock Mr. John R. L. Smith was married to Miss Katherine Furman. Rev. H. O. Judd officiated. Mrs. J. W. Talley, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and Mr. Andrew W. Land was best man. Mrs. Richard Findley sang as the attendants entered the church. Mendelssohn’s wedding March was played. The bride’s mother gave her to the groom. The wedding was quiet, but it was beautiful and impressive. After the ceremony the couple left for Florida points on a tour which is to last fifteen days, after which time they will return and be at home to their friends at the residence of Mrs. Helen Logan in Vineville. The groom is one of the most highly esteemed members of the Macon bar, and enjoys the confidence of the public, not only for his ability as a lawyer, but for his excellent character as a man. He is a member of the firm of Smith & Jones. The bride is a niece of Judge and Mrs. Clifford Anderson and a sister of Mrs. J. N. Talley, of Macon, and is a daughter of the late Mr. Farish Furman, of Baldwin county, one of the most famously successful of Georgia planters. She is also connected with the distinguished LeConte family.
