Alex Atkinson in this county last Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, when Miss Minnie Atkinson and Mr. J. J. Benton, of Jasper county, were joined in the holy bonds of matrimony, Rev. Mr. Jackson officiating. The ceremony was performed in the presence of a large number of invited guest who had assembled to witness the happy event. Some fifteen or twenty couples from Jasper county, especially friends of the highly contracting couple, were in attendance, along with a good representation of the bride’s friends from this city. The parlors of the commodious residence of Mr. and Mrs. Atkinson were gaily festooned with floral decorations and even the exterior appearance of the dwelling betokened cheeriness and hospitality to the guests assembled. The ceremony was a most impressive one and deeply effected those who were so fortunate as to be present and hear the words pronounce which joined the two loving hearts in an inseparable bond which should last as long as life itself. An elegant dinner was prepared and the guests were invited in to partake of a sumptuous repast, prepared under the supervision of the loving mother of the bride, than where there is none better capacitated to prepare a spread to please the most fastidious and exacting. Mr. Benton is a young man of many superior business qualifications, and in one of Jasper county’s most progressive citizens. The young bride is the daughter of Hon. Alex Atkinson, of this county, and is a young lady loved by all who know her. She has for the past few months been engaged in teaching a school near Monticello, in Jasper county, and it was here she met her husband, whose acquaintance ripened into the performance of Sunday afternoon’s ceremony. The couple will reside for the present in Jasper county at the home of the groom, and the Argus wishes them a long life of prosperity.
