Middle Ga. Argus – Week of February 16, 1882
Watson – Shiver

Mr. Robert Watson of this County, and Miss Mattie Shiver of Washington County 
was married at the residence of Mr. Wiley Fears in Jasper county, on Thursday 
evening last.  Rev. W. J. Oxford officiating.  Our friend Bob has got the right 
sort of pluck when he say’s he’s going to marry.  He don’t let nothing daunt 
him.  He was to have married Thursday morning at 9 o’clock but the surging 
billows of the Ocmulgee as she stood at high water mark bid defiance to the 
happy union; but bob put whip in the direction of Tennessee until he came to 
where there was no Ocmulgee, then changing his course to the direction of 
the “star” that he had chosen to guide him through life and drove in about 
twelve hours behind “schedule time.”  We hope he may be equally successful in 
overcoming all obstacles through life.
