Argus – Week of February 19, 1884 Elder – Elder At the residence of the bride’s father in the city of Macon at 7 o’clock on the 14th instant. Mr. W. F. Elder, of Jackson, was married to Miss Mary E. Elder, of Macon. Rev. J. O. A. Cook, Pastor of Mulberry Street church officiating. No cards were sent, only the near relatives and a few special friends witnessed the nuptials. The presents were numerable and valuable consisting of useful costly castors, water services, fine furniture, etc. We regret that we have not a list at our hands to publish for the benefit of the friends of the bride and groom. After the ceremony the happy pair remained in the room only a few minutes to receive the congratulation of relatives and friends, when they boarded the train for Jackson, where they were met at the depot by some special friends who accompanied them to the Dempsey House where they will make their home for the present. Mr. Elder is a most estimable young man, a gentleman possessed of many noble qualities, a character of decision and firmness and is well qualified to fill any position of honor or trust. Mr. Elder has been in the fancy grocery business here for the past two years and has now an enviable reputation for fairness and gentlemanly bearing in every instance. He is highly esteemed by our whole people. The bride is a very popular young lady in the Central city, whose pleasant and agreeable manners and uniform kindness have gained for her warm friends with all who had the pleasure of coming into intimate relationship with her. The bride and the groom seem to be unmistakably fitted for each other and we congratulate them both in the choice they have made and trust that their pathway through life will ever be as pleasant as the first few days of their honey moon.
