Jackson Argus – Butts County Week of December 3, 1897 …………………………………………………………………. Brown – Smith Marriage of Mr. Brown and Miss Smith at Flovilla Henry County Weekly The most brilliant social event of the season at Flovilla was the marriage of Mr. T. J. Brown and Miss Melvina Smith at the Methodist church at that place, at 4:30 o’clock last Thursday afternoon, Revs. Elam and Frank Culpepper performing the ceremony, which was witnessed by a very large number of friends. The arrival of the bridal party was announced by the familiar tones of the wedding march, and the arrangements were carried out in a most attractive and perfect manner, the ministers entering and passing down the isles one on each side, followed by the attendants and bridal couple in exquisitely arranged order. Little Mary Lucy Turner and another little girl of like age performed a dainty part and scattered the bridal path with flowers. The bride and bridesmaids carried Bride’s and LaFrance roses. Judge W. A. Brown, the groom’s brother, and Miss Hattie Smith, the bride’s sister, were first honor attendants, with Mr. T. H. Buttrill and Miss Heard, Mr. Will Minter and Miss Calloway as the other couples. The church was decorated with much beauty and taste, and the entire scene presented a bewitching tableau throughout the ceremony. The contracting parties are two most excellent and highly esteemed young people, and have hosts of friends throughout Middle Georgia who wish them all happiness and prosperity. Mr. and Mrs. Brown left immediately after the ceremony for Luella, where they have made their home.
