James S. Parker, was born in Baker County, Georgia, August 27, 1897. While he was still a baby his parents moved into Calhoun County, and since 1904 J. D. Parker has resided at Edison. At the age of fifteen he united with the Edison Baptist Church, and was baptized by Rev. H. L. Crumley. When he was eighteen years old he was ordained as a deacon of his church, in which position he is active today. Even though he has been interested in all church work, his love has centered in that of the young people. February 29, 1920 he was elected as president of the Bethel Association B.Y.P.U. with a membership of only seven unions. On April 13, 1926 he resigned from this position leaving the association with twenty eight unions. On July 21, 1926 he was married to Annie Hazel Spurlin of Sylvester, Georgia. During the summer of 1929 while at the Bluffton Encampment J. D. was again elected to serve the Associational B.Y.P.U. as president. At that time the number of unions had dropped to eighteen. In November 1931 he tendered his resignation as president, and at that time the number of unions had reached fifty seven and ten General Departments were doing excellent work. While attending the State B.Y.P.U. Encampment at Riverside, near Gainesville, Georgia, June 1931, J. D. Parker was elected as Regional President of Southwest Georgia. He was reelected at the 1932 session of the State Encampment.
