Mathis was held Tuesday afternoon at the Morgan Baptist Church. The service was conducted by the Rev. P.C. Lester, his pastor, assisted by the Rev. M.B. Brown. Mr. Mathis died Monday morning at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Iley Aycock; near Morgan. He was a member of the Edison Baptist Church for many years, and a highly respected citizen of Calhoun County. He owned a large plantation near Morgan, where he and his wife reared a large family. When his children all married, he bought a home in Edison, where he lived until the death of his wife. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Kent Ragan and Mrs. Iley Aycock of Morgan, and Mrs. Ed Ragan; six sons, Mr. Will Mathis, Birmingham; Mr. J.E. Mathis, Junction City; Mr. James Mathis, Dawson; Mr. George Mathis, Cordray; Mr. Cicero Mathis, Smithville; and Mr. Omar Mathis, Griffin. Mr. Mathis was a Mason, and was buried with Masonic honors.
