Mathis, 74, died at her home here Tuesday morning at 7:30 o'clock. She was Miss Mary Jane Clowers and was born September 26, 1855, near Leary. She married November 5, 1872, and lived in Leary until about nineteen years ago, when she moved to Edison. Mrs. Mathis was greatly loved by all who knew her and there are many friends to sympathize with the bereaved family. She is survived by her husband and nine children; Mrs. E.H. Ragan, Edison; Mrs. Kent Ragan, Morgan; Mrs. Iley Aycock, Morgan; Mr. J.E. Mathis, Junction City; C. Mathis, Smithville; J.L. Mathis, Dawson; George Mathis, Morgan; W.T. Mathis, Birmingham, Ala. and Dr. O.N. Mathis, Griffin. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. P.E. Lester, at the Baptist Church, Wednesday afternoon. The pallbearers were: Messrs. C.G. Joiner, H.E. Hammack, L.C. Manry, B.I. Jones, H.T. Singleton, D.C. Lewis, T.O. Lawrence and W.B. Lawrence. The body was taken to Morgan cemetery for burial.
