George W. Wooten, formerly a resident of this city [Vienna, Dooly Co., GA] died near Baxley [Appling Co., GA] Thursday afternoon at the home of his son, George W. Wooten. Mr. Wooten was a native of Calhoun county, a descendant of a fine old Georgia family. He served in the War Between the States from the beginning to the surrender. After the war he located in Americus where he was admitted to the bar. He was married there to Miss Colley. Two children were born of this union. In 1874 he moved to this city where he engaged in the practice of law for thirty years. In 1892 a number of years after death of his wife he was married to Mrs. Mattie Glenn _ennard [Lennard?, indistinct type] of this city whom he survived eleven years. Col. Wooten had a part in making the history of this little city. He gave the address of welcome when the Georgia Southern & Florida made its initial run over the line in 1887. It was he also who drew up and signed the application for charter for the city of cordele [Cordele] in 1888. Besides his two children, Geo. Wooten of Graham and Mrs. D. W. Yancey of Texas, Col. Wooten is survived by two step children, Mrs. K R Lewis and P A Lennard of this city. The funeral took place Friday at Mt. Zoar M. E.
