Mrs. B. H. Johnson, one of the county’s oldest and most beloved women died Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the home of her son, Dr. R. H. Johnson in this city. The deceased had been in feeble health for several months and while death was expected, her passing was indeed sad Infirmities of old age and a spinal trouble were cause of her passing. Mrs. Johnson was 67 years old Aug. 4th. She was born in Clay county at the old Ingram home, and prior to her marriage to Mr. Ben Johnson was a Miss Ingram. Shortly after her marriage she moved to his county with her husband and located near Dickey on what is now known as the Johnson place. Mrs. Johnson was a patient and sweet tempered lady, of high ideals, a good wife a noble mother and a real neighbor, and loved by all who knew her. She was a member of New Light Freewill Baptist church and lived a true christian life, and seemingly her chief delight was to do service for her children, her church and neighbors, and was happiest in doing something for others. She was preceeded to the grave by her husband several years ago, and is survived by following children: Mrs. G. W. Rogers, of Atlanta, Drs R H and B T Johnson, and Mrs. Carson McLendon, of this city; and the following brothers, Mr. J. H. Ingram, of Clay county, and Mr. J R Ingram of Early county; and two sisters Mrs. Ellen Ingram, of Clay, Mrs J M Little, of Baker county, besides several grand children and close relatives, all of whom are deeply greved [sic] in the the passing of this good lady. Funeral services were conducted at Salem Baptist church Sunday afternoon in the presence of a large crowd of relatives and friends, Revs. Marvin Vincent, of the Methodist church and L. M. Jones of the Baptist church, having charge of same and both paid a high tribute to the deceased for her splendid character and christian life.
