Mitchell (1809-1813, 1815-1817), dated at St. Mary’s, November 5, 1816. Bailey and Gibson report to the governor on a number of issues including the confiscation of property that appears to have belonged to a murdered man known as Indian George. [General] Floyd of the 22nd ulto. [ultimo] which was communicated to us immediately on its receipt by express -- the Sheriffs & his deputies were required to take into their possession the property that could be found, that had been [document damaged] Indian George at the time he was murdered. The Sheriff has reported that two Indian Horses have been Seized & and we [unclear: request] that [missing word: you]will be pleased to direct what shall be done with them & with the property that may hereafter be taken.... the expense of conveying these horses (which are very small, & of little value) to Milledgeville, would be more than they are worth and five Dollars has been paid to [unclear: a man] after one of them -- A Warrant has been issued for the apprehension of the persons named in the affidavit of Mr. Barber, but our impression is that they will not come on this side of the River. --No exertion shall be wanting on the part of the Justices of the Inferior Court. -- We are respectfully Yr.
