The 10th. inst. a party of Indians stole a Horse from this station, I followed them with Eight Dragoons for five Days, about seventy Miles, the want of Forage & provisions made it imprudent to follow any further, the 15th. of said Month, which was the Day that I returned to my Command, another party of Indians stole & Carried off three Horses from the B. Fort (Burnt Fort), on Sittilla (Satilla River), my Horses bein (sic) very much Fitague'd (sic) & having no forage in any of the stations to Recrute (sic) them at the time, put it out of my power to follow them, Bein (sic) taken three Days before a report was made, to me at Colerain, on the 22nd, of said Month some Indians made prisoner and Carried off from the vicinity of the B. Fort a Negro fellow, the property of John Crawford one of the Spies, at said station, In Capt. Randolph's absence the Command of the frontier of this Couty falls on me, they (sic) men that were Inlisted (sic) Untill (sic) the first of Jany. their time is out this Day, Your Excellency having taken no Orders to raise men to fill up their place thats (sic) Come to hand, I thought it my Duty to indeavr, (sic) to Keep as many of they (sic) men as pofsible (possible) for the Month of Jany, or for a few Days, Untill (sic) some Orders Comes forward, from Your Excellency with arrangements for the protection & regulations of this frontier, In Consequence of they (sic) Mens time bein (sic) Nearly out, I wrote & sent a report to the Commanding officer of this County, Capt, Abner Mitchel, to Order a Draft of they (sic) Different District Companies to hold themselves in readinefs (readiness) in Case it should be found Necefsary, Garrison Colerain & B. Fort stations, when they (sic) mens time of Inlistment (sic) was out, which he refused to Comply with, Not receiving the Orders Orders (sic) from a person thats (sic) higher in Authority, the want of Field officers in this Country, is very much alyarmed (sic) the Inhabitants thereof, & the protection the Militia would afford, if they had good field officers, to keep up the proper Regulations, the Bear'r. of this is one of the Dragoons, he will want pocket Money to bear his expences (sic) Back to this place, Your Excellency will be pleas'd (sic) to supply him if they (sic) public allows Money for that purpose, Mr. Cobbs Muster'd (sic) they (sic) B. Fort & Colerain Detachments, for the Month of Novemr. & Carried on triplicate pay & muster Rolls with him, he Empower'd (sic) me to Muster they Men for this month, which I have Done & send on the Rolls by the Bear'r (sic), Your Excellency will please to have them Given to the paymaster, I am Your Excellency's Most Obedient very Humble, Serv't.
