In consequence of the above communication Mr. David Garvin was called on, who produced a statement signed by the deputy Sheriff of Camden County from which it appears that Mr. Garvin took legal steps to procure payment of the demand he had against Mr. Cheek which was consequently liquidated and nearly paid – And from other statements exhibited by said Garvin it would appear that the said Jack Kennard (sic) and several other Indians of the Creek Nation are still indebted to him – It does not appear therefore to the said Magistrates of this County, that they have the power to adopt any measures to avert the said Mischief of the said Indians but have requested Major King as one of the Magistrates and the Commandant of the Militia of the County to make a representation to his Excellency the Governor on the subject, who will take such precautions as the safety of our frontier inhabitants may appear to require – Tho King J.
