Carlton Daniel "Dan" Jenkins, 36, of Kingsland died Monday while serving in the line of duty. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in St. Marys with the Revs. Keith Harwood and Brian Hudson, and John Brunell officiating. Burial with honors by the Georgia State Patrol Honor Guard will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin Anderson, Mark Bartimus, Chuck Byerly, Kevin Chaney, David Douglas, Joe Jenkins, Mark Schwartz and Jason Seaward. Honorary pallbearers will be members of local area law enforcement. The family will receive friends from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dan Jenkins Memorial Fund, c/o Southeastern Bank, P.O. Box 39, Woodbine, GA, 31569. Surviving are his wife, Jeanie Kay Jenkins of Kingsland; a son, Jesse Daniel Jenkins of Yulee, Fla.; two daughters, Becky Lee Jenkins of Yulee, and Kalynn Dannielle Jenkins of Kingsland; two stepsons, Joshua Michael Beauchamp and James Dean Beauchamp, both of Kingsland; his parents, Steve and Dorothy Prochazka of Bloomington, Ind.; a brother, Joseph Samuel Jenkins of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Carol Cannon of Jacksonville, Fla., Donna Combs and Jan Prochazka, both of Chicago, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. A native of Jacksonville, Mr. Jenkins previously lived in Cicero, Ill., where he graduated from Morton East High School. He was a graduate of the basic police officers' school at Lake City Community College, Lake City, Fla., and a graduate of Armstrong College in Savannah, where he received his police officer certification for the state of Georgia and post instructor's certificate. Mr. Jenkins lived in Camden County for the past 12 years. He had been employed with the Kingsland Police Department for four years, and was most recently a sergeant with the Camden County Sheriff's Department, where he has worked for the past seven years. He was a field training officer for the sheriff's department, and also worked as a security officer at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Amelia Island Plantation and Camden Medical Center. He was named Camden County Sheriff's Department Officer of the Year in 1997 and 1999. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a Baptist. Submitted by: Tara D. Fields Owner: The Crypt.
