Wright writecjc@aol.com John L. KIDD Family John son of John and Elizabeth (Murphy) KIDD was born in 1785 on his parents plantation on South Fishing Creek, South Carolina. He grew up in York Co. and in 1803 met and married Sarah Savina Wallace, a daughter of Oliver and Judith Wallace of the county same that resided near Brattonville. In late 1803, John and Sarah migrated with others to Livingston Co. KY. Here they started on new ground farming, until the New Madrid Earthquake of 1812-14 very nearly destroyed their farm. Family history says that the upheaval was so great, trees folded together like a tent and they lost most of their garden which waters took away. Shortly after 1814, John and Sarah returned to York Co. SC. It is thought that they went back to South Fishing Creek area. John Kidd's parents bought another place in 1822 on Turkey Creek just west of South Fishing Creek, so they may have been either place. To John and Sarah's union were 13 known children: Oliver Culwell Kidd, Sr. who married 1st to Sarah C. Johnson and second to Mary E. O'Neal; Lucy Ann Kidd who married Marion Madison Gray; Minerva Kidd who married William Kirk; Isaac William Kidd who married Esther Glephus; John Matthew Kidd; Andrew or Anderson Kidd; Milton P. Kidd who died in the CW; Alice Kidd who married Israel Pannell; Margaret "Peggy" Kidd who married Reuben Bishop; Robert M. Kidd who married Niah N. Rucker; Sarah H. Kidd who married Thomas E. Patterson; and James R. Kidd who married Malinda Bailey. Of these children 5 or 6 were born in Kentucky, and the rest in York Co. SC. Many of these people migrated from York Co. to Campbell Co. GA. In 1831, John and Sarah left York Co. SC for opportunities in Coweta Co. GA. The lands were changing and they were found in a new county called Campbell. They found some nice lands south of present day Atlanta and west of Fairburn, GA. Here they bought some land and settled an area of which they called Antioch Community. Here they built a church and school. John Kidd and others also gave land for a cemetery. In this cemetery are buried many of the 1st settlers of this community. Even as of 1998, these Kidds and others along with them show as resting in this quiet community on Rivertown Road. John and Sarah Kidd's graves stand out in this cemetery because they have large slabs of native rock over them that once stood on the same kind of rock as legs. John Kidd passed away in 1872 and Sarah passed away in 1868. There is also a granite marker placed there by earlier descendants of John and Sarah.
