Smith Dear Brother for the first time in life I attempt to write you a few lines this leaves me on the mend I have been right sick for one week but up to now and now and hope this may find you all well. I hardly no how to begin to write on this occation but surprise it to say that it is hard times here. All the connections is well that is a live. But you can see from the following who is dead. In the first place Harvey was killed in the battle of Fredeircksburg December 13th 1862 Milledy died of tiphoide peneumonic Fever April 2nd 1863 he died in camp in Virginia (Va.) I was with kim and Harvey til they died Mother died with Airsiplus in the head October 16th 1863 She died while I was in the War. I. S. died in Natches La July the 3rd 1863 and his youngest child on the 7th of the same instant. I don't know what was the matter with I. S. only know his dead. So now you see who is dead of the family So I will perseed to tell of the connection Aunt Malindy Kidd is dead James and John and Milton Kidd air all 3 dead uncle Iral Punnell and Frank is both dead. So I will close on the matter. Well Bryant I stayed in the cursed war 4 years and was wound 1 time I escaped well buy I say dam the cecsh fro ever this country is ruined they got us all into it I will now tell what I am going to have this year Mass and me has planted land on the river. We have got 150 acres of river bottom. We have got 3 fed men to work with us so you see what is my program this year Now for something else Father has married a lady that lived in Carol. Uncle Lilburn is married to Miss Eliza McGuire. Sarah Jane Kidd is married to Nute Sumers as for the other weddings they are to numberous to mention. Now Bryant I want You to give me all the dates on the questions that I ast the first thing I want to know what kind of country that is.
