When a boy he moved to Kershaw District, South Carolina. William Clinton married in 1783 or 1784, day and month not stated, in Kershaw District, South Carolina, Violet Perry. In 1834 they moved from Kershaw District, South Carolina, to Campbell County, Georgia [NOTE: Campbell Co. went bankrupt about 1931, was absorbed by Fulton Co., now mostly downtown Atlanta]. William Clinton died February 16, 1847, in Campbell County, Georgia, and his widow, Violet Clinton, died February 12, 1852, place, and her age not shown, leaving the following children: David Clinton, aged sixty-seven years, living in Louisiana, place not given; George P. Clinton, aged forty-two years, residing in Campbell County, Georgia; Susan V. Hollis, aged forty-five years, a resident of Cobb County, Georgia, and William P. Clinton, aged forty-eight years, living in Campbell County, Georgia. April 2, 1852, said William P. Clinton, applied for pension, on account of the Revolutionary War services of his father, on behalf of himself and his brothers and sister named above. William P. Clinton stated that his father, William Clinton, while a resident of Kershaw District, South Carolina, enlisted the second year of the Revolutionary War and served all or nearly all the time until peace was made; that he served in the South Carolina troops under Colonel Henderson and under Kershaw and other officers, names not given, as private and sergeant, and that near the close of the war he served as lieutenant; and that he was in the battles of Stone, Hanging Rock, Camden, and Eutaw Springs where he received a shot in his thigh. The claim for pension was not allowed as proof of service was not furnished as required by the pension laws. In 1852 one Alexander W. Perry and one Thomas J. Perry were of Kershaw District, South Carolina, their ages and relationship to the family are not shown. There are no further family data. Very truly yours, A.D. Clinton aged 48, states he is the son of Violet Clinton, deceased who was the widow of William Clinton, a soldier of the Revolution. His father was born 1749 in Virginia; while a boy moved to Kershaw District, South Carolina. Parents lived Kershaw District until 1834 when they removed to Campbell County, Georgia.
