All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Peggy Gilbert-Shaw AlabamaFamily@hotmail.com November 2, 2003, 10:23 pm Widows Pension War of 1812, No 5548 Soldier, Jacob Langley Edmund Belcher Company South Carolina Militia State of Georgia County of Campbell On this 4th day of July, AD eighteen hundred and seventy one personally appeared befor me Reuben Beavers Judge of the court of Ordinary, a Court of Record in and for the County and State aforesaid Luvina Langley, aged 97 years, a resident of Campbell County, State of Georgia who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Jacob Langley, who served the full period of sixty days in the (1) Military service of the United States in the War of 1812, and who was the identical Jacob Langley who was (2) drafted in Captain Belchers Company, (blank) Regiment (blank) Brigade (blank) Division, at Edgefield District SC on the (blank) day of (blank) 1814, and was honorably discharged at Edgefield Courthouse on teh day of (blank) 1815; that (3) her said husband served the full period of six months that she does not remember his Col. name or Genls. The she is now old and can remember little of the events connected with his service but states posetively (sic) he was in the service of the War of 1812 sent from Edgefield Dist SC in 1814 and wus (sic) honorably discharged that she was married under the name of Luvina Gentry to said Jacob Langley, on the (blank) day of (blank) AD 1804 by John Catledge Minister of the Gospel at Edgefield District SC, there being no legal barrier to such marriage; that her said husband died at Campbell County, on the about the day of year 1832, and that she has not remarried since his death; that at no time during the late rebellion against the United States did she or her said husband adhere to the cause of the enemies of the Government, giving them aid or comfort, or exercise the functions of any office whatever under any authority, or pretended authority, in hostility to the United States; that she will support the Constitution of the United States; that she is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act; that she make this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension rolls of the United States, under the provisions of the act approved February 14, 1871, and hereby constitutes and appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation R W Walker of Washington DC her true and lawful attorney, to prosecute her claim, and obtain the pension certificate that me be issued; that her post office is at Fairbern County of Campbell State of Georgia; that her domicile or place of abode is in Campbell County Georgia Applicant Luvina (her mark) Langley Attest Wm F Devine Spencer Horney Also personally appeared William Floyd Divine and Spencer Harvey, residing at No (blank, in (blank)Campbell Street in County, and at No (blank) in State of street, in Georgia persons whom I certify to be respectable adn entitled to credit, and who being by me duly sworn, say : They were present and saw Luvina Langley the claimant, sign her name (or make her mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of the said claimant; and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical persion she represents herself to be, and has not remarried since the death of her husband, but remains his widow, and at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States did she, or her said husband, adhere to the cause of the enemies of the Government, or give then aid or confort; and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.
