Lewis brought to The Leader on Saturday two old manuscripts that he prizes. One is a letter written by his brother R.J. Lewis from an Army camp during the Civil War to the father of Messrs. Lewis. The letter was dated in March 1864. The writer died about six months later from illness contracted in the Army. The other old relic was a bill for sale of cotton made by James Lambuth at Palmetto, Georgia to S. Lewis, father of S.D. Lewis and dated March 2, 1855. It was written by hand on blue paper, showed that the bale of cotton sold by the elder Mr. Lewis weighed 505 pounds and brought at the rate of 6.70 cents, $33.83 1/2.
