S. Jones -LYONS - Mr. U. S. Jones, age 76, of 250 N. Hamilton Avenue, Lyons, died Thursday morning in the Meadows Regional Medical Center of Vidalia after a brief illness. -A native of Candler County, he lived most of his life in Lyons. He graduated from Metter High School in 1944, graduated from John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science in 1948 and was a U. S. Navy Veteran of WWII. Mr. Jones was owner and operator of Trapnell-Jones Funeral Home in Lyons for 53 years until his retirement in 1998. He was Lyons Citizen of the Year in 1986, he was a former member of the Lyons Lion Club, the Kiwanis Club of Lyons, a member of Lyons Masonic Lodge #49 and served on various civic committees. Mr. Jones was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lyons where he was an active deacon, the assistant treasurer, served on the fiance committee, was a member of the Senior Citizen Choir and a member of the Barracca Sunday School Class. -Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Billie Higgs Jones of Lyons; two daughters and sons-in-law: Melanie Jones Clark and James R. Clark of Baxley and Michelle Jones Mosley and Marshall Mosley of Lyons; one son, Jeff S. Jones of Decatur; two brothers: C.B. and John Jones, both of Metter; five grandchildren: Kathryn and Trey Mosley of Lyons and Carson, Kristen and Kara Clark, all of Baxley; several nieces and nephews also survive. -Funeral services for Mr. U. S. Jones will be held Saturday morning at 11AM. from the First Baptist Church of Lyons with Rev. Dannie Williams and Dr. Max Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyons City Cemetery. -In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Lyons Building Fund. - The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. -Jones­Stewart Funeral Home of Lyons is in charge of funeral arrangements.
