Phillips Rodsr@oklahoma.net January 15, 2004, 6:08 pm Author: Rodric M. Phillips I thought Aunt Jessie was my Aunt until I was almost grown because that's what my mother, Myrtle Pauline Carroll Phillips, called her. In actuality, Jessie was my mother's Aunt by marriage. Jessie married Franklin David Hamrick. Franklin was my mother's mother's brother. My brothers and I visited Aunt Jessie often, at her home across from the old swimming pool on West Chandler Street in Carrollton as well as her millinery department in the old Griffin's Department Store. Aunt Jessie worked at Griffin's for 47 years, and I suspect most folks in Carrollton knew her. If not at Griffin's, they knew of her from her active participation in the Abraham Baldwin Chapter of the D.A.R., or her years of service as a member of the Carroll County Genealogy Society. Aunt Jessie was proud of her family's history, and could trace her family lineage back to the Revolutionary War, and was a member of the D.A.R. I will let her own words speak for her now, as what follows if directly from her D.A.R. membership application.
