WIDENER/WIDNER Joseph (Joe) M. Widener (sometimes spelled Widner), was born between the time span 1832-1836. The old records give conflicting information regarding his definite birth year but it's certain it was between this time span. He was born in either Georgia or South Carolina, again conflicting information, but a certainty that it was probably no other state except Georgia or South Carolina. He was a wood workman who later became a jewelry repairman. His wife was Sarah A. _______, born 1837 in Georgia. Her maiden name is unknown. She died 1899 and is buried at Victory Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll County, Georgia. By 1880, they had five children as follows: William Widener was born 1856 in Carroll County, Georgia. Nancy Emma Frances Widener was born 9-11-1859 in Carroll County, Georgia and married 10-13-1886 in Carroll County, Georgia to Stephen Alexander (Steve) Carter who was born 4-18-1856 in Randolph County, Alabama. Emma died about 1901 and is buried at Victory Methodist Church Cemetery, Carroll County, Georgia. Margaret C. Widener was born 1860 in Carroll County, Georgia. Sarah Elizabeth ("Queenie") Widener was born 1862 in Carroll County, Georgia. Joseph Widener was born 1865 in Carroll County, Georgia. Go to 'HISTORY' on this same Carroll County website, click on it, then click on "Letter to Mrs. I.F. Carter from Vistory Methodist Church". There you will find a letter from a dear lady, Mrs. Jessie McDaniel Hamrick, who knew both families of Stephen Alexander (Steve) Carter. Her letter will give you a short glance into their lives. Stephen Alexander Carter married (1) 12-17-1883 Sarah Amanda Roberts. That marriage ended when she and their first baby died during childbirth. He married (2) 10-13-1886 Nancy Emma Frances Widener. She died about 1901. He married (3) 11-19-1907 Lonnie Lee Weaver. Stephen Alexander (Steve) Carter moved his family to the area of Colquitt County-Worth County, Georgia somewhere between the time span of 1920 and 1923. He died 8-14-1943 in Colquitt County, Georgia and is buried in a marked grave at Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Worth County, Georgia, near Doerun, Georgia. 1860 CARROLL COUNTY, GEORGIA CENSUS AGE BORN # 25 Widener, Joseph 28 S.C. Widener, but it is all that was found in the above records searched to make this listing. Further research could yield other children and it might also be added that if Carroll County, Georgia Courthouse records were to be checked further for Widener marriages, it could probably be learned who each of the other children married. This compiler descends from Stephen Alexander (Steve) Carter's third marriage which was to Lonnie Lee Weaver but this Widener information was collected while searching for Steve's information and it was thought it might be helpful to anyone working on this Widener line.
