MARCH 6, 1837 It is hereby ordered by the Court that the Clerk advertise and let to the lowest bidder on the second Saturday in March 1837 the repairing the courthouse viz: Removing the chimneys and rubbish and repairing where they stand as to preserve the house, place new glass in all the sash where they are out or damaged, hang all the blinds which are down, have all the doors bared but one which is to have a lock and key for it this 6th March 1837. It is ordered by the Court that the Clerk employ the County Surveyor to resurvey the Town of Carrollton which survey is to be made agreeable to the first order for the survey of said town and that he also advertise all the unsold lots in said town for sale on the second Tuesday in April next which publication is to be given in the Columbus Sentinel and advertised at different places in said county. It is ordered by the court that Thomas McGuire proceed to take down the chimney now attached to the courthouse and clear away the rubbish and trash from the foundation of the same as that in consideration of his trouble he may apply the brick to his own use. 6th of March 1837 (signed) JOHN B. WORD,JIC JAS. H. RODGERS, JIC I. E. COBB, JIC AUGUST 9TH, 1837 Ordered that the town lots Nos. 139 & 144 be offered for sale on the 26th instant also any other lots the court may so propose to sell. (inserted is a drawing of the proposed jail) The plan for a jail in Carroll County is as follows: twenty by twenty-four the outer wall, to be built of good timber to be hewed one foot square, the lower story to be eight foot between flowers(floors) and the uper story to be seven feet between flowers, the lower story to be built a single wall of logs , one foot square, the dungeon to be a double wall of logs one foot square, the uper and lower floor of which is to be of logs one foot square, the door is to have three shutters made of two inch oak planks, the inside shutter is to be lined with sheet iron on both sides, each window is to be two feet by three, the bars of iron one inch square and fastened in the logs, the lower floor to be laid with inch and a quarter planks and have three grate windows of twelve lights with sash and glass on the inside and grates on the outside, one door of two inch oak planks, the house to be raised one foot from the ground and will be underpined with rock, the entry to be laid with common flowering (flooring) plank with stairs run in a sufficient manner in the entry up to the dungeon, the dungeon is to be sealed & floored with one inch and a half oak planks put on with sufficient 20 penny nails four inches apart, one window of twelve lights with sash and shutter at the head of the stairs, the roof to be of good sufficient hart (heart) pine shingles, one door in the lower story from the outside to the entry of two inch oak plank, good and sufficient stock locks to all the doors, shutters, all the locks and keys to be of sufficient size and strength for a jail, the outside of the jail to be weatherboarded, the work is all to be done in a good sufficient workmanlike manner. It is ordered by the court that the Clerk advertise that there will be let to the lowest bidder the building of a jail at Carrollton which will be let on the 20th instant this 9th of August 1837.
