B. Wood Company A First Reg’t Ga Reserves, Army of the Confederate States, Colonel James H. Fannin, from the First day of May 1864, when mustered into the Service of the Confederate States. Note: This muster roll contains the original entries of the men who enlisted in the First Georgia Reserves, Company A. It includes the number (order in which their names were written), name, rank, enlistment data of when, where, and by whom, time period of enlistment (all were for the duration of the war), age, height in terms of feet & inches, complexion, color of eyes, and color of hair, occupation and place of residence at the time of enlistment. The first four officers were not so noted and neither were the men who comprised the bottom Ό of the list. Although it was noted on this original muster roll that all privates should be listed in alphabetical order, not all were done so and in order to keep this Muster Roll authentic, I’ve listed them according to the original document. The soldiers who made up Company A of the 1st Georgia Reserves were from the known counties of Heard (18), Coweta (29), Campbell (1), Carroll (1), DeKalb (5), Henry (1), Jackson (2), Meriwether (1), Walton (1), Franklin (1) and one was listed as living in Anderson District, SC. Not all men had their place of residence included and I have no further knowledge of them at this time. They included farmers (47), clerks (3), stone cutters (4), mechanics (1), merchants (1), blacksmiths (1), and wagon makers (1). Only one was listed as having “none” occupation. All transcriptions contain errors to some degree due to the poor quality of the microfilm or dark spots that have occurred with age, or white spots that make the writing not legible. I have tried to reconstruct this original muster roll as accurately as is humanly possible. Even so, I cannot guarantee 100% accuracy. I hope it will be of some small benefit to you in your research on your ancestors who served during the Civil War. Officers: 1. W. B. Wood – Enlisted as Captain May 1, 1864 in Atlanta, Ga by Capt. W. I’m especially thankful to Kurt Graham, esteemed CW researcher, for his expertise & guidance in CSA war time records. Without him, these pages would not exist. I am also thankful to Rufus B. Young, Kenneth R. Mitchell, and Charlie Lott (SCV) who made it possible for my great grandfather’s gravesite to be marked with a Confederate tombstone marker.
