This information is desired for statistical purposes and it may be of great value to your family in the future. Very respectfully, Green B. Ben Wakins Volunteers of Gerogia having made application for pension under the laws of the United States: Now this Agreement Witnesseth: That for and consideration of services done and to be done in te premises, I hereby agree to allow my attorney, Stoddart & Co. of Washington, D. C. the fee of $25.00, to which shall include all amounts to be paid for any services in the furtherance of said claim; and said fee shall not be demanded by or payable to my said attorney, in whole or in part, except in case of granting of my pension by the Commissioner fo Pensions; and that the same shall be paid to them in accordance with the provisions of Sections 4768 and 4769 of the Revised Statutes, U.S. Witnesses N. Langley a resident of Bowdon in the County of Carroll, in the state of Georgia, who being by me first duly sworn according to law, deposes and says: That he is the identical John B. Langley, who served under the name of John B. Langley, as a private inte Company commanded by Captain Ben. Watkins in the (blank) regiment of Georgia Inf., commanded by Calv. Ben Camp in the war with Cherokee Indians in the year 1837 that he enlisted at Campbellton, Ga., on or about the 28th day of May, A.D. 1837, for the term of 3 months, and was honorably discharged at New Town Ga on the 28 day of July, A. D. 1837. No. 1 That being duly enlisted, as foresaid, he actually served thirty days with the Army or Navy of the United States, in the war as above stated, which service was as follows: Collecting the Indians and carrying them from Cherokee Georgia to Rosses Landing and obeying all orders and performing all sevice necessary in accomplishing the object of the government No. 2 That he was personally named in a resolution of Congress for a specifice service in said war, to wit: In the resolution of the (blank) day of (blank), 18 (blank) and was honorably discharged, as above. That he has never servied in the Army, Navy, or Marine Corps of the United States, otherwise than as above stated, except (blank) That his has (blank) heretofore made application for bounty land (blank); that he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the Pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the Act of July 27, 1892. Langley and being by me duly Sworn on oath says that all of his Family records were destroyed in the time of the late war between the States, and his is not Therefore able to state positively his present age, but from the best of this recollections he thinks he is now about seventy five years old. That he is a citizen of the United States and has been all the while, never having been out of the United States- and being uneduciled (educated ?) he never has written but very little in his life, but did write his name to an application for Land Warrant and obtained the same. But he has not for a number of years past written any on account of old age and dimness of sight and that this is the reason he didn’t write his name to application for Pension, but made his cross mark thereunto. Very respectfully, William Rule, Pension Agent *** In 1924 an Inquiry was made by one Mrs. Myrtis Rivero questioning the Bureau of Pensions as to the date of death of John B. Langley, the following is concering this. 516 Ellis Street, Augusta, Ga. June 27, 1924 Bureau of Pensioners, Washington D. C. Dear Sir: John Langley was a pensioner of Troup Co., Ga Any information will be most deeply appreciated. Thanking You Yours Truly, Mrs Myrtis Rivero Response: Invalid Divison, I. S. C. 1906, John B. Langley, Ga. Vols. August 1924 Madam: In response to your letter I have to advise you that the records of this bureau show that pension at the rate of $80 per month was allowed John B. Langley, whose last known post office address is Bowden, Ga., on account of his service in Capt. Watkins’ Co., Ga. Vols. in the Cherokee disturbances in 1838. If tou desire information relative to the date of death of this soldier you should address the General Accounting Office, Military Division, stating the number on his certificate, his full name and service.
