The coroner's jury expressed in their verdict the belief that Cook killed Nottingham in self defense. There had been bad feeling between Cook and Mitchell for years and Mitchell's boys getting in Cook's field last Friday, brought them together and a general row ensued, in which the friends of each took part. Nottingham interfered in Mitchell's favor, when Cook shot and killed him. Cook was badly cut up and Mitchell received a lick on the head with the butt of the gun in the hands of Mahaffey, driving the gun lock through his skull. Mitchell's son was badly hurt too. Mahaffey escaped unhurt. It is feared that neither Cook nor Mitchell will recover. Mr. Nottingham's brother, who is a judge of the county court of Houston county, with a member of the Legislature of that county, came to Douglasville with a new and fine coffin and proceeded to Pleasant Hill church where his brother had been buried and took him up and carried him home.
