Kelly. The deceased had many relatives in Carroll county who will receive this sad intelligence with heavy hearts. Just before she died, she reached out her hand and said that she was in heaven and had met her mother who died but a short time ago, and that they were shaking each other's hands, and that she recognized two of her little children who died some years ago. Griffin was born April the 14th, 1820; joined the Baptist church of Christ at Bethesda the 11th of August 1867, being baptized by Rev. Wm. Daniel; departed this life the 18th day of November 1881. By order of conference held at Oak Grove church on December the 10th, 1881, the undersigned were appointed to write an appropriate tribute to the memory of our dear departed brother, J.R. Griffin. Bro. Griffin had been a member of the Baptist church more than 14 years; was a true lover of the Lord and gave proof of the same by his many good works, and was always ready to use the means with which God had blessed him, for the support of His cause. We were associated with him as a Deacon in the Baptist church and can testify to his faithful works in that capacity. We will miss him in the congregation, miss him in the prayer meeting, official meetings, where it was his delight to be. One of the most beautiful characteristics of our departed brother was his devotion to his family. His every act seemed to have reference to the mental, moral and spiritual welfare of every member of his family. Our heartfelt sympathies are with his bereaved family. May the God of the widow and orphan mercifully remember them, and give them grace to sustain them in this, their great sorrow and may the departure of our dear brother Griffin humble us all and lead us to a closer walk with Him, who has the right to call for any of His children, whenever it pleases Him to do so, and may we all, like our brother Griffin, be ready with our lamps all trimmed and bright.
