Kirkley will take place this morning, Friday, the 6th inst. at 9 o'clock a.m. at the M.E. church and the burial will take place immediately thereafter with Masonic honors. ----- DEATH OF CAPTAIN W.P. KIRKLEY It becomes our sad duty to announce the death of Captain W.P. Kirkley, which took place at his residence in this place, after a long and painful illness, on last Wednesday evening at about 9 o'clock. For several days previous to his demise, his friends had lost all hope of his recovery, and his death was considered only a question of time. The disease from which he died was ulceration of the stomach. In the death of Captain Kirkley, Carrollton and Carroll county has lost one of its best citizens, his family a devoted and affectionate husband and father, and the M.E. church to which he belonged, one of its staunchest supporters and most consistent members. In all the relations of life he was a model citizen, and no one stood higher in the esteem of the people, among whom he lived, than he did. His character was of that solid and substantial kind, which always commands respect. His influence was always for the things which tended for the good of the community and for the right. We write hastily this tribute to his memory, amidst a multitude of other duties, just before going to press. We trust that a suitable memorial to his life will be prepared for publication, at an early day. Captain Kirkley leaves a wife and one child who have the sympathies of all. He was a member in good standing of both the Masonic fraternity and the Knights of Honor. ------ WHITESBURG News Married at the residence of the widow Merk, two miles south of Whitesburg, on October 1st by R.
