Shackleford to Miss I.V. Sharp, one of Carroll county's most beautiful young ladies. ----- Married at the Cheney house, on Sunday, December 24, 1882, by the Rev. E.B. Barrett, Mr. W.D. Evans, our clever young jeweler, to MIss Mattie, the beautiful daughter of Dr. I.N. Cheney. ---- Married at the residence of the bride's father on the 24th day of December, by the Rev. A.C. Reese of Carrollton, Mr. F.M. Williamson to Miss Mary J. Ballard of Carroll county, Georgia. ---- Married at the residence of the bride's father Mr. Elias Hudgins on December 31st, 1882, Mr. C.A. Awtry of this place to Miss Genie Hudgins of Carroll county. ---- Married on December 24th at the residence of the bride's father, with Rev. W.W. Roop officiating, W.T. Wynn to Miss D.E. Berwell. ----- Mr. and Mrs. Crawford, nee Miss Ada Myrick, formerly of this place, are on a visit to the family of Mrs. Myrick. ----- Miss Fannie Edgeworth has gone to Louisville, Ga. to visit her cousin Miss Nettie Patterson. ----- Uncle Billy Boon who has been living in this county about fifty years, died at his home near Bowenville, the place he located to, with pneumonia. ---- Mr. Ceph Roop who has been very low for several months, has so far recovered to be able to visit his father, Maj. Roop of this place, who has been quite feeble, however who is convalescent at this writing. ---- Mrs. M.A.E. Meriwether, daughter of Mr. J.M. Meadow of this place, died at her home in Coweta county on December 26th, 1882. We deeply sympathize with the bereaved relatives and friends. ---- KANSAS District News There is a man by the name of J.G. Felton living in Haralson county who has never tasted or drank a drop of spirits in his life and he is now 60 years old, and has grandchildren grown and they are temperate, and he does not owe anyone a dollar. ---- There was a very sudden death in Haralson last week. On Monday night, Mrs. Prater, the wife of Mr. A.J. Prater, dropped dead while walking out to her smoke house to cut meat for supper. Her husband was gone to Cave Springs when he heard of the sad news of his wife's death. His connections and friends have the deepest condolence of many friends in their sad bereavement. ---- NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, JANUARY 12, 1883 STRIPLING'S CHAPEL News Mrs. Ann Lyle has gone to Mississippi on a visit to her father's family. She will be gone several months. ---- LOCAL News Mr. Thomas Shadinger was married on Sunday, December 24th to Miss Emma Foster. The ceremony took place at the residence of the bride's uncle, Mr. J.T. Hardegree and was performed by W.A. Timmons, J.P. ----- Married, at the residence of the bride's father Mr. D.L. Trussell on Jan'y 3, the Rev. W.J. Scott officiating, Mr. J.F. Doan to Miss Carrie Trussell, of this place. After the ceremony, all partook of an excellent supper prepared by Mrs. Trussell. ---- NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, JANUARY 19, 1883 COWETA County News Rev. George Edwards Smith of this county died at his home January 5th. A good man has been called up higher. ---- The widow of Daniel Wester died on Christmas. ---- The widow Martha Brooks, living just below Newnan, died on the 6th of January. ---- Mrs. Bennett Sanders of the Panther Creek district is quite low with consumption and with but little hopes of recovery. ------ Mr. E.C. Palmer of this vicinity has had an alteration of his mind at this time, and it is thought that he will have to be sent to the Lunatic Asylum. ---- Mr. Irwin Sewell, since he has landed back from Arkansas, has lost of one his children and has another quite sick. ---- LOCAL News Willie Skinner of Gadsden, Alabama was over the first of the week to visit his sister Mrs. J.T. Bradley. ---- Married at the residence of the bride's father Mr. W.B. Huggins on Jan. 16th, the Rev. J.M. Griffin officiating, Mr. W.J. Bryant to Miss Leonie L. Huggins, all of Carroll county. ---- Married at the residence of the bride's stepfather the Rev. H.N. Wiggins on the evening of the 11th of January 1883 by W.L. Craven, Esq., Mr. J.W. Eason to Miss F.C. White, all of Carroll county. ----- LIBEL FOR DIVORCE Carroll County, Georgia Superior Court W.A. Huckeba vs. Josephine C. Huckeba It appearing to the court by the return of the Sheriff in the above stated case that the defendant does not reside in said county and it further appearing that she does not reside in this state, it is therefore ordered by the court that service be perfected on the defendant by the publication of this order, once a month for four months before the next term of this court in Carroll County, in the Carroll County Times, a newspaper published in Carroll county, Georgia. Jones to Miss Janie Crider. ---- NOTICE All persons are hereby notified not to sell or furnish Georgie Beck, wife of the undersigned, anything whatever on my account, as I shall pay no debt contracted by her after this date, she having left my house without cause or provocation. Henderson Beck. This Jan. 15th, 1883. -------- Mr. J.T. Street, one of Morgan county's best citizens, has moved to our town. We hope Mr. Street will be pleased with us and that his settling among us will be to our benefit as well as to his. We are always glad to welcome good men into our midst. ----- In the case of the state vs. Willis Bagwell and his two sons who are charged in Douglas Superior Court with the murder of Mary Bagwell, eighteen years ago, the state counsel continued the case. The defendants, we learn, were all present and ready for trial and were disappointed in not getting a verdict of acquittal at this term of the court. Their counsel here, Messrs. Merrell, Reese and Adamson say they are confident of a verdict of "not guilty". ----- BUFFALO Community News Miss Eva Strickland of Senoia is teaching at Perryville Academy this year. ---- Judge Zedric Bonner's health, we are glad to say, is improving, although he is still very feeble. ---- STRIPLING'S CHAPEL News We are sorry to learn that our friend Jimmy Bowen who has been in feeble health for some time, is gradually growing weaker. ---- Mr. George Chambers of Indiana is visiting his father's family in this community. Mr. Chambers was in the late war and after the surrender, he remained in that state where he married and he has never visited his father's family since, until now. ----- Married at the residence of the bride's father on the 16th day of January by Rev. Huggins. ------ NEWSPAPER issue of Friday, FEBRUARY 2, 1883 LOCAL News Mr. Daniel Jones, an old and highly respectable citizen of Kansas district, one of the pioneer settlers of Carroll, and who is well known to many of our reader, was stricken down with paralysis on the 10th of November last, and has been confined to his bed ever since, in an entirely helpless condition. ----- Again, the angel of death has laid his finger on one of our best citizens, and the spirit of Mr. Martin Roop, was carried up and through the gates unto the presence of Him who said " Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord." Mr. Roop had been a citizen of our county for a number of years and for the last year or so, a resident of this place. He was a member of the Baptist church and lived with the expectation of meeting his Father when the call was made for him to "come up higher." He leaves a wife and children whom we deeply sympathize with, and only trust that when the final roll call is called, every voice will be heard to answer that "All is Well." ------ Mrs. M.A. Urquhardt is confined to her bed with a severe spell of neuralgia. We hope it will not prove dangerous. ----- WHITESBURG News Married at the residence of the bride's father Mr. W.G. House on January 18th by Rev. Harrison Jones, Mr. Joseph Hyde of Coweta county to Miss Emma House of Carroll county. ----- NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, FEBRUARY 9, 1883 COWETA County News Death has again visited our county and took away some of our best citizens. Among them are: Andrew J. Berry Henry Keller James Brown Mrs. Foster Arnold Mrs. Martha Brooks, sister of Mrs. Foster Arnold Mrs. Bennett Sanders passed away a few days ago after much suffering. Her funeral was preached by Rev. E.B. Barrett to quite a large crowd. All of these have passed away in the last thirty days. ----- Our sick list: Mr. Benjamin Leigh Mr. Tommie Cook Mr. E.C. Palmer ---- Our newly married ones: Mr. William Edwards and Miss Ella Sewell ---- LOCAL News Married at the residence of the bride's father with Elder John Tillery officiating, Mr. D.B. Cuglar to Miss Alice Wilson, on the 24th of January. ----- WHITESBURG News Married at the residence of the bride's father Maj. William Bailey, late of Jackson in Butts county but now a citizen of Whitesburg, on Feb. 1st at 6 o'clock p.m. by Rev. W.H. Speer, Mr. Robert A. Woodward of Jackson to Miss Mary Bailey of Whitesburg. ------ Mrs. Morris, the mother of C.F. Morris of County Line, Georgia, died at Hutcherson's Ferry last Saturday night. ---- KANSAS District News There have been six weddings: Mr. Franklin Aldredge to Miss Amanda Fillmon Mr. Robert Holcombe to Miss Margaret Watson Mr. Davis Howard to Miss Ellie Reid Mr. Allen to Miss Dempsey Mr. John Hardman to Miss Almira Bailey ----- NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, FEBRUARY 16, 1883 OBITUARY OF MRS. NANCY AGNES CAMP Departed this life Feb. 12 at 11 o'clock a.m., Mrs. Nancy Agnes Camp, aged 69 years, 4 months and 11 days. She had been the wife of S.M. Camp for 51 years; was the mother of 13 children and 11 of them are living to mourn her loss, with their aged father. She had been a consistent member of the Primitive Baptist church for 37 years; her walk was such as becoming a Christian. She was loved by all who knew her; she leaves many friends and relatives to mourn her loss, but they mourn not as those that have no hope, to find in those Divine words, "blessed are the dead which die in the Lord", yea said the spirit that they may rest from their labor and their work do follow them. A friend. ----- LOCAL News Quite a serious runaway occurred in town a few days ago in which Mr. Green Huckaby was considerably bruised up. We do not know the amount of damage done to the buggy. We hope Mr. Huckaby was not seriously injured. ---- The committee on the erection of the new Methodist church have let out the contract to the Gaston Brothers and we learn they are to commence work at a very early date. ---- Dr. W.H. Watson, one of our eldest citizens, has moved from town to his place in Heard county. We regret to have the doctor leave us as he was an excellent citizen and a fine physician. We wish him success, as he surely merits it. ----- STRIPLING'S CHAPEL News Mr. Rivers, an old gentleman, died quite suddenly last Saturday at his son-in- law's, Mr. Wilson Brown, near Mt. Pleasant. ---- WHITESBURG News Miss Parninah Hagans, well known in our town and community, was married last Sunday at her father's residence, to Mr. Jefferson Moore of Villa Rica. ---- Mrs. Morgan who lived on H. G. Almon's place, died last week. ---- Uncle William Allen died last week, who lived over the river in Coweta. ---- APPLICATION FOR LETTERS OF ADMINISTRATION Carroll County, Georgia Whereas, Zadoc Bonner has in proper form, applied to me for Letters of Administration on the estate of Helena Bonner, deceased. Holland on Feb. 15th by Judge Lindsey Holland, Mr. B.F. Barron of County Line in Carroll county to Miss Della Holland.
