Mr. Brown spent the early portion of his life in the eastern part of this county; he then settled about five miles south of Carrollton where he lived nearly twenty years, before his removal to Alabama. All who knew him, know what manner of man he was; honest, upright, just, charitable. J.H. Word, Bowdon, Ga. ------ OBITUARY OF MRS. W.O. DAVIS We clip from The Newnan Herald a notice of the death of Mrs. W.O. Davis of Gainesville, Texas. The deceased was a daughter of the late Sanders Faver of Heard county, and a sister of Jno. T. and L.D. Favor and Mrs. Col. J.B. Merrill of Franklin. It is hard to realize that one so young, of presence so charming, and having such promise of long life, is gone forever. The young Georgia husband is already distinguished in the Legislature and the legal annals of the Lone Star state. But what are all his civic honors, so well won and nobly worn, now that she who was his inspiration has passed out of his life. Tis sad to reflect that life's picture is thus marred, it's light swallowed up in shade, it's beauty and freshness gone. Yet we trust the young husband, the bereaved sisters, the mourning brothers, loved ones all, who can but give now to departed virtue and excellence the tribute of their tears, will find consolation in the blessed hope of resurrection. ------- NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, JULY 24, 1885 LOCAL News Milly Stegall, colored, wife of Jordan Stegall, died on Sunday evening. GRAY Mrs. Eugenia A. Gray, wife of J.W. Gray, died at her home in Carroll county, Ga. July 20th, 1885. She was born in Chambers county, Ala. on June 22nd, 1845. She was the daughter of Henry L. and Mary F. F. Threadgill. She was left at 8 years old an orphan, her mother dying one day and her father the next. Her Uncle Alsamus and Aunt Jane Allen brought her and two sisters and the only brother to their home in Carroll and reared them as their own children. She was married to J.W. Gray on Aug. 13th, 1863. She was converted the joined the Methodist church at an early age and has ever since been a true and faithful christian. Her two sisters and three children preceded her to the better land and her only brother, A.H. Threadgill, is the only one of the family left. Although from early childhood, she was subject to sorrow and afflictions, she would say that "God doeth all things well." She was taken sick about dark Sunday night and before daybreak, she was speechless, having spasms. Her loved ones and kind physicians did all they could, but the angel of death claimed her as his own and before the sun set, her sweet spirit had gone home to Heaven. How sad for her to be taken when as it seems to us, her husband and children needed her most! But God knows best. A loving, true faithful wife and mother, sister and friend she was. "Death indeed loves a shining mark". She was a favorite with all, young and old. None knew her but to love her and those that knew her best loved her most. The many friends that visited her in her short illness and attended her to her last resting place attest this fact. She seemed impressed from the time she was taken sick that she would never get well. Among her last words were prayers for her eight children that she loved so well. God grant that her prayers may be answered and that husband, wife, mother and children, brother and sister may be reunited in that heavenly home where parting will be no more. To the writer, she has indeed been a friend. Many, many time when we have been in deep waters and our hearts sad and bleeding, she has cheered us by her kind words and acts. But alas, she is gone and we never again can see that bright, smiling face to cheer our hearts. May the good Lord sanctify this sad bereavement to the good of all that loved her and as her cheerful, winning ways drew so many to her earthly home, may her sweet spirit beckon them on to her beautiful home in heaven. And to the sorrowing ones we would say, look to Jesus. -------- NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, AUGUST 7, 1885 From "THE FRANKLIN News Mrs. W.I.
