Harris, living a few miles west of here has sold out to a gentleman from Pike county and will return with his brother to Texas. --- Mr. Wm. M. Simms of Heard county died last Friday night. --- OBITUARY OF MRS. J.B. PARR Departed this life, 23rd inst., Mrs. J.B. Parr, consort of Wm. L. Parr, deceased, in the 74th year of her age, at her residence in Carrollton. She died suddenly in her yard within a few feet of the door while engaged in her domestic affairs, without the present knowledge of any of the family. Perhaps life was totally gone ten or fifteen minutes before her body was discovered lying in the cold embrace of death. The shock was as severe as sudden to the entire family; but especially to the invalid daughter who had ever resided with her mother, to the time of her death. Be it so. "He doeth all things well." The swift winged Messenger came without the usual preliminaries and bore away in quiet the spirit of the much beloved mother to the Paradise of God. From early childhod she had been a believer in Jesus and attached herself to the Methodist church, South. Long had Sister Parr in her obscurity and comparative destitution, appealed to Him in whom she trusted for comfort in her hours of trouble and sometimes deep sorrow. It was doubtless no disturbance to her when the summons came. She was ready; her probation had ended and her work finished. The angel that bore her spirit away from the midst of her domestic pleasures carried her to Eden's home where flowers bloom forever and pleasures never die. Fare thee well mother; many of thy relatives and friends who shed a tear for thee on the day of thy death and burial, believe in the same Jesus. Soon, we hope to join thee, with that host whom no man can number and who have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the lamb. ----- NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, NOVEMBER 8, 1878 LOCAL News Married on the 6th inst., at the residence of Mr. Jack Smith by the Rev. EMILY WORTHY Passed from earth to heaven, on Sunday evening the 17th day of November, Mrs. Emily Worthy, wife of Z.P. Worthy, aged 58 years, after a severe affliction from a stroke of paralysis, which occurred four years ago. She bore her affliction with christian fortitude, ever acknowledging that the Lord doeth all things well, and that He chastiseth those whom He loveth. Possessing those Christian virtues as she did, she made them a source of great comfort, though all her trials and suffering. She was a consistent member of the Missionary Baptist church for forty-three years. For that long period she lived as she died, fully in the faith, ever trusting in Jesus as the author of her salvation. She had always a mild, gentle and kind disposition, coupled with a tender and forgiving spirit. Such was the character of her advice and counsel to her family and her light can be naught but a shining light to guide them to that bliss to which she has gone before them. She was a kind and devoted wife, an indulgent and loving mother, ever willing to make any sacrifice for the good and comfort of her family. The bereaved family have our sincere and heartfelt sympathy in the irreparable loss of their loved one, but they have condolence stronger than the feeble words of the living could give, in her own last words, that after death she feared no evil and that all would be well after she passed through that dark valley. ---- NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, DECEMBER 6, 1878 LOCAL News Mrs. Creel, wife of George Creel of this county, died last Tuesday night at the residence of her husband here. We failed to learn any of the particulars of her death. Mrs. Creel leaves a husband and large family of children to mourn her loss. --- Our readers have all heard a good deal about the panther that roamed the swamps of the Tallapoosa out in the neighborhood of John Handley's. He has been caught and the county is now safe. John brought his skin in last Monday and put it at Mr. Meadow's store where a great many have gone to see it. John ran it out from under his house and captured it with the aid of his dog near his residence. It made a hard fight and would have proved too much for the dog, if John had not come to his rescue. It had a small steel trap on one of his torn feet when caught. Some say, judging from the skin that it was a large house cat. If it was, it was a huge one. The trap on its foot had evidently been there some time. --- Married, on the evening of Nov. 28th by Rev. Mr. Roop, at the residence of Dr. A.E. McGarity, Mr. Jos. A. Wynne to Miss Emma S.
