Mr. Lamar was born Sept. 25, 1935, in Dallas, Texas, son of the late William Douglas Lamar and the late Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth MacRae Lamar. HE SERVED FOR 15 YEARS IN THE U.S. NAVY. HE SERVED DURING THE KOREAN WAR AND PARTICIPATED IN THE BAY OF PIGS INVASION. He was a ir traffic controller. COPELAND, 69, of Pine Knoll Drive, Carrollton, formerly of Warner Robins, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002 following an extended illness. Mr. Copeland was born Jan. 22, 1933 in Carroll County, son of the late George Henderson Copeland and Annie Grace Rooks Copeland. He was RETIRED FROM THE U. S. AIR FORCE HAVING ATTAINED THE RANK OF TECH. SGT. AND HAVING SERVED IN VIETMAN. After his retirement he worked as a plumber. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Otis Copeland and Dan Copeland. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home today from 6 to 9 p.m. Nathan (Ned) Ernest Dozier, 84, a retired Navy Captian, of Falls Church Va., Died Dec 6, 2001 Capt. Dozier was born June 15, 1917, the youngest child of Nathan Ernest Dozier and Cora Mae Simonton. He graduated from Carrollton High School and attended West Georgia College prior to his enlistment in the Navy. HE WAS COMMISSIONED AND ENSON USSNR IN 1941. DURING WORLD WAR II, HE SERVED ON ANPHIBIOUS CRAFT IN LANDING ISN AFRICA, ITALY AND THE PACIFIC THEATER. POST-WAR DUTY ASSIGNMENTS INCLUDE THE STAFF OF COMMANDER, SEVENTH FLEET, COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE NAVY SUPPLY SHIP, USS BELLATRIX (AF 62) AND OTHER SEA AND SHORE DUTY TOURS. After retirement from the Navy in 1964, Capt. Dozier worked as a federal employee until his second retirement in 1975. Captain Dozier was preceded in death by his parents and brother and sister, Arthur S. Dozier and Sarah D. Stephens. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia, of Falls Church, Va. and daughter, Deborah Miles of Brandywine, Md.; nieces, Susan S., Kellam of Virginia Beach, Va. and Sally S. Sullivan and nephew, H. Boyd Stephens, both of Carrollton. SIMPSON, 89 , of Carrollton, formerly of Newell, Al. died Monday, Feb 4, 2002 at Carrollton Manor following an extended illness. Mr. Simpson was born in Randolph County, al. on Sept. 2, 1912, son of George Albert Simpson and Harpie McCollough Simpson. He was retired from the Randolph County School System where he had devoted his entire working life to educating the children of Randolph County. He was a teacher and principal at various schools throughout Randolph County, and prior to his retirement, devoted his last 12 working years to serving as Superintendent Randolph County Schools. He was a member of Pine Hill Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie J. Simpson. Survivors include two sons, James W. Walter Thomas "Dub" SHEETS Jr., 77, of Browning Road, Villa Rica, died Feb. 12, 2002. Mr. Sheets was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Troup County, son of the late Walter Thomas Sheets Sr. and Mrs. Minnie Abna Sheets. HE WAS A MARINE WHO SERVED IN WORLD WAR II. He was a member of the American Legion in Villa Rica and the Loyal Order of Moose # 1314 in Mableton. He worked in residential maintenance and was a produce manager at Big Apple for 15 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Sheets and one son Joe Sheets. Brenda Browning WAGNER, 61, passed away suddenly at her home in Franklin, N.C. on Feb 7, 2002. Mrs. Wagner had lived in Carrollton, until January of last year. She was born April 28, 1940, in Bridgeport, Al. She graduated from the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and the Baptist Student Union, serving as president in her senior year. She was a member of Ephiphany Espicopal church in Decatur. She worked for 20 years with the Georgia Dept of Family and children Services, serving in a statewide supervisory position for many years. Later she served as Asst. Director of Family and Children services in DeKalb County. In 1994, she was employed by Systems and Methods, inc. in Carrollton, where she worked until her retirement in Oct. 2000. She was the first female member of Golden K Kiwanis Club in Carrollton and served on the Board of Directors until her retirement. For four years, she and her husband lived in Nevis, West Indies, where both were pilots of their small aircraft. She regularly flew to San Juan, P. R. to buy food, medicine and paper products for the island natives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles N. Wagner; mother, Thelma R. Browning and father, George F. Browning. Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia and Steve McCutcheon of Carrollton; niece Stephanie M. Dunlap and her husband, Sammy Dunlap of Barnesville; sister-in-law Jane Dickinson of Baltimore, Md. And numerous relatives in North Alabama and Tennessee. She was the Organizational President of the Georgia Romance Writers Association and the treasurer of the Romance Writers of America. She had authored 28 novels, and was a noted speaker at many writers' conferences. She was a former president of the Calhoun Women's Club and a member of many other civic organizations.
